Amplify Austin Day is a day of giving. For 24 hours, Amplify Austin aims to provide an easy and fun way for our Austin community to come together and help local nonprofits. In 2017, a total of $9.8M was raised for 700 Central Texas nonprofits. We’ve participated every year and believe this act of giving back is an integral part of making Austin a strong and united community.
This year, we’re making a donation of $5,000 to Breakthrough Central Texas, an organization that provides extended learning, comprehensive advising and leadership experiences to middle school through college to students in low-income communities who will be the first in their families to graduate from college.
In addition to the matching donation, we offered the opportunity for each of our team members to make a donation to a nonprofit of their choice. One of our core values is to be passionate about everything we do and our passions really shine through in our reasons for giving. Read on to find out where and why the Launch Marketing team chooses to AMPLIFY Austin this year.
Christa, Founder and CEO – Breakthrough Central Texas
“I am passionate about helping the next generation learn, grow, stretch themselves and achieve their goals – for me, Breakthrough’s mission (provide a path through college for students from low-income communities who will be the first in their families to graduate from college) perfectly aligns with my passion and I’m proud to be a longtime supporter of the organization!”
Shawna, Executive Director Accounts and Operations – BIG Love Cancer Center
“My heart hurts for anyone that has to battle with cancer, especially kids. I am so grateful for organizations like B.I.G Love Cancer Care who offer care to cancer children and their families.”
Jeff, Executive Director Client Engagements – Texas 4000 for Cancer
“Like so many others, cancer has severely impacted the lives of those I love. Texas 4000 is an inspiring organization that honors those special people by cultivating student leaders and engaging communities in the fight against cancer. Texas 4000 is unique in its parallel initiatives to support cancer research while concurrently building a foundation of young leaders that will move us closer to the goal of eradicating this pervasive group of diseases.”
Travis, Business Development Director – SIMS Foundation
“The reason I chose to support the Sims Foundation is simple. We live in the Live Music Capital of the World and musicians provide a tremendous value to us all by not only differentiating our city as a cultural Mecca and driving tourism, but also by creating art that can change ones soul. This service provides needed mental health support for our musical community and delivers cost effective treatment for folks that lack the financial means to ensure a thriving existence.”
Jen, Senior Account Manager – The Gazelle Foundation
“The Gazelle Foundation was founded by Gilbert Tuhabonye, my first running coach in Austin/coach of Gilbert Gazelle’s. He survived the 1993 massacre that took place in Burundi. He was tortured, set on fire and left for dead but he was able to escape and literally run for his life to safety. His story is one of the most inspiring you will ever hear and knowing him is a true honor. Gilbert started the Gazelle Foundation to help the people of his country by helping to build and provide clean water to one of the poorest countries on earth. Throughout the year the Gazelle Foundation hosts several events to race money such as races, bake sales and community events. I would love for my donation to go towards this amazing cause!”
Carlos, Account Manager – Code2College
“The mission of Code2College is to dramatically increase the number of girls, underrepresented students of color and low-income students who enter STEM undergraduate programs and careers. Back in high school, I was in a magnet engineering program, and it was definitely a valuable experience in my education. This is why I believe it is important to encourage underrepresented students to pursue careers in STEM by providing programs, like Code2College, for them to be set up for success.”
Anissa, Account Manager – Boys and Girls Club of Austin Area
“I volunteered at BGCAustin last year and thought it was a great organization with the mission to inspire and enable children in need. I believe caring and encouraging children who may not grow up in an ideal environment or may not have access to the same development tools than others is where we can begin to make a change in their lives and in our society.”
Emily, Junior Account Manager – SAFE Alliance
“SAFE provides comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, ranging from legal aid to child care to emergency housing and more. I volunteer at SAFE and know firsthand that every dollar is changing the lives of survivors across Central Texas.”
Leslie, Junior Account Manager – Equal Justice Center
“EJC helps immigrants work and live in the US legally. It also helps people who otherwise couldn’t afford legal representation fight for their worker’s rights. This type of protection is especially important in the current political climate, where these people are especially vulnerable.”
Kate, Marketing Specialist – National Parks Conservation Association
“I choose National Parks Conservation Association because one of my favorite weekend activities is to go on hikes, and I have been to many National Parks across the US for vacations. The Earth is so amazing, and we don’t spend enough time appreciating its beauty!”
