In recognition of the end of Women’s History Month, the Launch team took some time to recognize and reflect on the incredible women leaders who have paved the way for a more equitable society and made thriving companies like ours possible.

Carlos Gil, Jr. Account Manager: J.K. Rowling, author and philanthropist
Carlos admires Rowling because: “Growing up, I was a huge fan (like many other kids my age) of the Harry Potter series, and her books really encouraged me to read more. I saw a movie about her life growing up, and it was also really interesting to see how she was able to become so successful despite her struggles in life. Basically, she’s pretty awesome.”

Christa Kleinhans Tuttle, Founder and CEO: Oprah Winfrey, television producer and business mogul
Christa admires Winfrey because: “Through hard work, an uncompromising belief in herself, passion and a make it happen attitude she has become a household name as a talk show host, actress, business mogul and philanthropist. Her focus on being the best version of herself she can be and her desire to help others discover the best version of themselves has always been an inspiration to me.”

Claudia Kulaga, Account Manager: Jane Goodall, primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace
Claudia admires Goodall because: “She did something I had always wanted to do as a kid – go live amongst wild animals, in her case chimpanzees. Her study on the social and family interactions of chimpanzees, which she started in 1960, continues today, and she has made many achievements and received numerous honors and awards for her activist and conservationist work.”

Emily Neie, Jr. Account Manager: Charlotte Bronte, novelist and poet
Emily admires Bronte because: “Charlotte Bronte published the iconic novel Jane Eyre in 1847, nearly 30 years before the UK women’s suffrage movement began. While most people wouldn’t automatically associate Bronte with the women’s rights movement, her revolutionary writing paved the way for women taking back their agency—both in marriage and in public life.”

Jeff Raymond, Account Director: Malala Yousafzai, activist and Nobel laureate
Jeff admires Yousafzai because: “She is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate. She received the prize for her struggle against the suppression of young people and for the right of all children to an education.”

Leslie Gloria, Jr. Account Manager: Marie Curie, scientist and Nobel prize winner
Leslie admires Curie because: “She was the first woman to win a Nobel prize, and she’s still the only woman to win twice. She worked hard to educate herself in a time when it was uncommon for women to pursue higher education, and she went on to become the first female professor at the University of Paris. She was extremely smart and humble, and used her prize money to continue her research instead of living an extravagant lifestyle.”

Maysoon Al-Hasso, Account Director: Julia Child, chef and television personality
Maysoon admires Child because: “Julia was a pioneer of cooking TV and beloved chef and personality. I learned to make an omelette watching her toss eggs around on LIVE black and white television. Loved her personality, fearlessness and joie de vivre!”

Melinda Armstrong, VP of Client Services: Dr. Maya Angelou, author, poet and activist (among many other things)
Melinda admires Dr. Angelou because: “Dr. Angelou was a pioneer in so many areas and really forged the way for women around the world! To me she fully represents beauty and poise and peace and power. She was an author, poet, historian, songwriter, playwright, dancer, stage and screen producer, director (the first black woman in Hollywood), performer, singer, and civil rights activist. In 2000, she received the National Medal of Arts, and in 2010 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama.”

Shawna Boyce, Executive Director, Accounts and Operations: Lady Bird Johnson, former First Lady and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Shawna admires Johnson because: “Her lifelong dedication to beautifying the cities and highways of our nation through the Highway Beautification Act sparks such joy and admiration. She was politically involved in a time when it was uncommon for First Ladies to be so active with legislation.”

Troy Kennedy, Business Development Manager: Laura Bush, former First Lady and educator
Troy admires Bush because: “My wife is a teacher, and I’ve seen how hard she works for her kids. Laura Bush was an educator for a long time, and as First Lady she made an impact on the education system and literacy with her national book festival. She’s a role model and source of inspiration for teachers like my wife, and I’m grateful for her contributions to education.”
